PROGRAM TITLE: CAPACITY BUILDING
PARTICIPANTS: WORKFORCE/PASTORS (NORTH EAST S/L MISSION)
VENUE: HEADQUARTERS, NORTH EAST SIERRA LEONE MISSION
DURATION: ONE WEEK PER MONTH (DURING REPORTING) FOR SIX MONTHS (FIRST PHASE)
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: ELEVEN (13)
INSTRUCTOR: EVANGELIST JOSEPH M. S. TARAWALLIE
AREAS OF CONCENTRATION: FUNDAMENTAL OF COMPUTING SKILLS AND NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES
INTRODUCTION: Capacity building has been the greatest concern of the administration of North East Sierra Leone Mission. The growth of any institution depends on both the effectiveness, and efficient of the work force, which can be created by building up the human resource.
The failure of many institutions is because of paying less attention in the human capital. The human capital is a vital one in any institution, and no institution can exist without this capital, because it makes things happen.
The administration of North East values the human capital, and believes the way forward for qualitative output is to provide training for the work force. In regards to this, a distance-teaching program on two areas is now in progress:
Sometimes to get reports from the twelve districts in the region becomes tough or difficult, because reports will only reach the office of the director at the end of every month when workers come down for reporting, and this contributes to late reporting
by the administration to the higher bodies (Mission, Union etc.). North East is a large region that covers from Kono East to Port Loko (12 Church Districts)
To combat this difficulty, the administration has decided to conduct training in the basic of fundamental computing skills, which is in progress.
EXPECTATION: At the end of the entire training, workers are expected to use the computer to prepare all their reports, and send them through their emails. This will reduce the delay, and cost involve in travelling from their different fields to the headquarters, and submit their reports.
CHALLENGES:
1- Few numbers of computers (two) during the training, and this makes it impossible to cover targeted areas per day.
2- Providing meal and photocopying materials during the training seems difficult, because only few districts are ready to support their pastors with ten thousand Leones (le 10,000.00) per day.
3- Provision of laptop for each pastor during or after the training.
This area will help the pastors to develop a good background in interpreting the texts of the New Testament. It is undisputable that most of the theological controversies are built around the texts of the New Testament, and this is posing major challenge to many pastors. For example, heresies such as; Gnosticism, Manichaeism, Neoplatonism, Marcionism, Ebionitism, Montanism, and the like exist due to the New Testament description of Jesus Christ, so a pastor can only face against these teachings through thorough studies (2 Tim 2:15).
The dream of the administration is to make North East the fountain of knowledge and this has led to the establishment of library in the office. Currently, though there are few textbooks, but this library is helping the workers during the ongoing training.
APPEAL: To all God’s children to help the sustainability, and growth of this program. Play a part to produce formidable work force. Remember, God is counting on you in His Mission to bring the dying souls.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF NORTH-EAST SIERRA LEONE MISSION STATION
The North –East Sierra Leone Mission Station (NESLMS) is a newly carved station from the Sierra Leone Mission of Seventh-day Adventist Church. This station covers the entire Northern Province (five government administrative districts) which is the largest region in the country, and Kono district in the Eastern Province. The purpose for this carving is to foster growth in the work of the Lord. The Northern Province contains almost half of the population of the country, and kono district accommodates almost half of the population in the Eastern Region. The Northern Province (Matamp) was the first region visited by the Seventh- day Adventist missionaries, and that is why it is known to be the foundation of the Seventh-day Adventist faith in Sierra Leone. Though the region was used as the base to propagate the gospel in this country, it is now known to be the least to benefit from the missionaries; no structures left, and almost all the lands are under lease which need to be legalized. The population in the Northern Province is dominated by peasant farmers, and that in Kono district is dominated by miners. Presently, this Mission Station holds about ten organized church districts, meaning it has the largest membership of the church in the country.
